Indian
Village Water Main Improvements Approved
Indian
Village water main improvements near completion
April 21, 2009
The bulk of the project to upgrade the water mains servicing Seneca Rd,
Oneida Rd and Mohawk Dr was completed last summer/fall. This spring, the
contractor will be returning to perform clean-up of any areas that degraded over
the winter. We anticipate this will commence sometime in May.
Additionally, we are working with The Acton Highway Department to coordinate
milling and resurfacing of Oneida and Mohawk. Seneca Road was resurfaced
last fall.
Thank
you, again, to all of the residents in the impacted areas, and beyond, for their
patience and understanding during the process.

The existing main on Seneca
Road has been replaced and all previously connected customers are connected to
the new Ductile Iron water main.
As part of this project, the water main on Seneca
Road will be connected to Agawam Road.
Previously, there wasn’t any water main in that
stretch.
The contractor is currently working on
Oneida Road, and has run into ledge under the pavement.
This is being broken up with a rock hammer attached
to an excavator.
This process does slow down progress, and we are
currently working with the consulting engineer and contractor to develop a
strategy to continue at the expected rate.
This may extend the project past the anticipated
completion date, but hopefully will not.
We will know more in the coming weeks dependent on
the magnitude and quantity of ledge.
The next part of the project is the remainder of Mohawk Drive
that was not upgraded in 2003.
Please check back periodically for updates.

At the
Annual Meeting held on March 19th, 2008, the District voters approved a project
to improve mains on Seneca Road, Oneida Road and the remainder of Mohawk Drive,
approximately 6,000 feet of water main. This project has been engineered
by Stantec Consultants of Westford, and will be commencing ASAP, please check
the web site @ www.actonwater.com for periodic updates. The contractor is
Proia Construction from Needham, MA. During this process, there will be no
interruption of water service to any customers, as there will be temporary over
ground water supply installed. These roads will be done one-at-a-time
starting with Seneca Road.
As we perform this necessary improvement to our distribution
system, we appreciate your patience and understanding during the construction
process. We realize that there will be challenges with re-routing traffic
during working hours, and are committed to making this as seamless as possible,
with safety of residents and workers as a paramount
focus.
Please contact The Water District Monday through Friday 7:30 AM
to 4:00 PM at 978-263-9107 should you have any questions, concerns, or require
any further information.
Thank you
Chris Allen
