Water Main Improvements update

August 31, 2010

Water Main installation complete

The contractor, Onyx Transportation, has completed the installation of the new water main on Arlington St stretching from Hayward Rd to Freedom Farme/Charter Rd.  The last connection of service was switched over on Monday, August 30, 2010, rendering the installation of the main, and connection of services complete.  Additionally, concurrent with the service changeover, the final connection was made to the existing system at the Charter Rd/Freedom Farme/Arlington St intersection.
This project was approved by the voters at the annual meeting in March of 2010.  It removed from service a 3500 ft stretch of water main that had been breaking frequently in the recent past, straining district resources and manpower.  This improvement is a small portion of the overall system improvements that will need to be made into the future.  As other cities and towns in Massachusetts can attest, aging infrastructure is a main priority for imminent capital improvements.
The remaining work to be done the week on, or about, September 8th will consist of patching the water main trench and service laterals with pavement to stabilize the affected portion of the street for the winter months.  This portion of Arlington St. will be milled and resurfaced from curb-to-curb next year to allow the trench to settle.
We would like to thank all of the residents in the impact area for their patience and understanding during this very necessary improvement.  As I’m sure many of you can attest, the service outages due to water line breakage were a severe inconvenience.  We were very pleased that a local contractor, Onyx Transportation, was awarded the bid, and we would like to thank them for their professionalism, and timely execution of the contract terms. It has been a pleasure working with them.

Thank you

Arlington Street Water Main Improvements to commence May 2010

May 12th, 2010

At the Annual Meeting held on March 17, 2010, The District voters approved a project to improve the water mains on Arlington Street, approximately 3,500 feet of water main.
This project has been engineered by Wright-Pierce of Andover, MA, and will be commencing the week of May 10th, please check the web site @ www.actonwater.com for periodic updates.  The contractor is Onyx Transportation of Acton, MA.  During this process, there will be no interruption of water service to any customers, as the existing water main will remain in service as long as possible.  If service interruptions are required, sufficient prior notice will be provided.  This project will have ancillary impact on Kennedy Lane and Perkins Lane.

As we perform this necessary improvement to our distribution system, we appreciate your patience and understanding during the construction process.  We realize that there will be challenges with re-routing traffic during working hours, and are committed to making this as seamless as possible, with safety of residents and workers as a paramount focus.
